Cal-CRIS and the Non-Profit Network Overview
Once upon a time, corporate funding for nonprofits came mainly in the form of sponsorship for special events, such as galas and walks, etc. This “classic” corporate sponsorship model remains the most familiar model to many nonprofit staff and the general public alike, yet it is not actually the preferred method of giving for most companies anymore.
Yes, when you participate in a charity event you will still see corporate sponsors; however, these dollars are hard-won as more companies are allocating less to sponsorships and more to partnerships.
What do we mean by partnerships? It is not simply replacing one word for another. Within the last decade, companies have become more strategic with their giving and are now looking to form true partnerships with nonprofits that will help advance company objectives while also making an impact. Below we discuss the first steps to take in switching from a sponsorship to a partnership mindset.
We connect nonprofit organizations and corporate insurance firms to each other though mutually beneficial matchmaking. Insurance firms that partner with anyCalifornia chartered nonprofits are eligible for supplemental Cal-CRIS ranking points. Higher Cal-CRIS ranking equity scores make insurance companies more attractive to consumers and high quality employee applicants.
Nonprofits that network with insurance companies complete the supplemental application and submit it to Cal-CRIS and can accept donations from the nonprofit. There is no charge to the Nonprofit or the insurance company.
This is good news! It means your investment in sharpening relationship building skills can be applied to multiple funding streams. As companies have become more strategic in how they give, they are less and less interested in transactional giving. This inherently leads to building relationships that, if done well, can turn into long-term partnerships.
The best part is that California insurance consumer’s dollar is re-invested in California Nonprofits. These nonprofits use these corporate partnerships to provide services that benefits Californians. Since Californians are required to purchase insurance, it is our best interest to purchase from those firms that will reinvest in our communities.

C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc, established in October 2007 by the visionary Mrs. Keadrian Belcher-Harris, embarked on a mission to create philanthropic opportunities for urban youth. The organization began with a small yet determined group of eight young ladies aged 5 to 11, guided by one dedicated adult mentor. At a time when there were no youth organizations offering such opportunities, C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc stepped in to fill this vital gap.
Central to the mission of C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc is the belief that the self-esteem and confidence of young people can be significantly enhanced through acts of giving back to the community. By empowering them to be leaders from a young age, the organization instills in them the values of responsibility, compassion, and initiative. C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc provides a platform for these young individuals to engage in meaningful philanthropic activities, fostering a sense of purpose and achievement.
C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc goes above and beyond in its commitment to the community by offering a variety of impactful programs and events. They provide workshops for at-risk youths, equipping them with the skills and support needed to overcome challenges and thrive. Their sponsorship of breast cancer walkathons demonstrates their dedication to supporting health and wellness causes, while their clothing distribution drives ensure that those in need have access to essential resources.
One of the highlights of their annual calendar is the Mother-Daughter Brunch Celebration, a gala event that celebrates the bond between mothers and daughters while promoting unity, empowerment, and positive social interactions. This event not only strengthens familial ties but also reinforces the importance of community and support networks.
C.L.A.S.S.Y. Inc is more than just an organization; it is a movement to cultivate young leaders who are compassionate, driven, and ready to make a difference in their communities. Through their diverse programs and initiatives, they inspire and empower their members, ensuring that every young person who joins them leaves with a stronger sense of self and a brighter outlook on their future. Together, they are nurturing the next generation of leaders, one positive experience at a time.

We are building a broad movement to organize our base on climate justice because we see that environmental justice communities need drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions and related pollutants that harm air quality and public health. We believe that California’s current regulatory system to address climate change, cap and trade, will not get us there. As our state develops long-term, large-scale policy solutions, we have a unique opportunity to address long-standing environmental justice issues as well as fight climate change.

The main question you may have, “How will donations be used?” Currently all efforts dedicated to Cal-CRIS have been assigned to unpaid interns. And all hard costs are donated by Westech Environmental. In order to continue to provide this service, provide our interns with paid salaries and to upgrade for expansion, is gonna take more money.
The impact a $5, $10, and $20 donation would make a huge difference. Some people may feel embarrassed making a small donation, but it is important that we emphasize that donations of any amount are welcome, and every contribution will help Cal-CRIS reach it’s goal.
Thank-you
